996

Nine in the morning to nine at night, six days a week — prefilled so the web timer can start from those two times.

This page prefills a start and end time for the browser timer. It does not plan a roster. Rotating weeks, several shift kinds, and a calendar that repeats on its own are in the iOS app.

996 is shorthand for a day that runs from 9am to 9pm, six days a week. It began as a description of working hours at parts of China's technology industry, and the number is now used well beyond that context.

The arithmetic is what makes it notable. Twelve clock hours a day across six days is seventy-two hours a week — close to double a conventional forty-hour week, and that is before any commuting.

In August 2021 China's Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security jointly published a set of labour dispute cases stating that 996 arrangements exceed the statutory limits on working hours. Whether that applies to any particular job is a question for your own contract and local rules.

The web timer measures the interval you set, from start to finish, including days this long. It does not keep a weekly roster or switch you between several patterns. If 09:00–21:00 is today's stretch, start the countdown; if your day is different, change either time on the home page.

Use the browser when you want one start, one end, and nothing to install. Use iOS when the week itself changes — alternating weeks, work/rest rotations, or more than one kind of day.
